Editorial standards

Direct answers need visible proof.

That VA Guy combines first-hand mortgage experience with named primary sources, clear review dates, and corrections when guidance changes.

The standard

Every guide should help you verify the answer.

Mortgage guidance affects real financial decisions. Detailed guides begin with a direct answer, identify important exceptions, link to the strongest available source, and explain where an individual file review is still required.

How content is reviewed

1. Start with the real question

Each guide and video addresses one decision Veterans or military families are actually trying to make.

2. State the answer early

The first section gives the direct answer before background, definitions, or a call to action.

3. Use primary sources

VA program claims link to VA.gov, the VA Lenders Handbook, applicable government guidance, and licensing records whenever possible.

4. Add first-hand context

Mitch explains how the rule appears in real files while separating VA requirements from lender-specific standards.

5. Mark the review date

Detailed guides identify the publication date, last review date, and the substance of the latest update.

6. Keep the boundary clear

General education does not promise approval, a rate, a property decision, or a closing result.

Primary-source policy

Program rules are sourced to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other government resources whenever those sources address the question directly. Secondary sources may provide context, but they do not replace controlling guidance.

Advertising and educational boundaries

Approval, rates, costs, payments, property acceptance, and closing depend on the complete application, documentation, current program rules, and lender review.
